Learn and communicate in ways that fortify self confidence

Session B: Deepen the commitment

The outcome of Session A was the discovery of our deeply entrenched prejudices and 'frozen responses' we were habituated to carrying with us from our past. It is now time for us to examine our library of 'frozen responses' and the 'triggers' that get fired from our subconscious mind.

We will delve deeper into our minds to unravel the mysteries that lie hidden. A liberal doze ability to laugh at oneself and look stupid can be a gift for those who wish to explore all by themselves.

‘Emperor and the clothes’: We may have heard of the story of a King who wanted to wear a new dress everyday. When the tailor could come up with no more new design, the king threatened to behead him. Fearing for his dear life, the tailor got the King to appear in the nude calling it his 'birth-time' dress. When a child, that knows no fear,  laughed, the King realize his folly!

When was the last time you challenged your own deeply held assumptions?

This session may be the most challenging session personally.

  • Acknowledge ‘self deceit’:  We are all adept at making stuff up and inventing some reason for staying put. Rarely would we acknowledge our state of our perceived helplessness.
  • Surface the 'erroneous assumptions': 'Perceptual positioning' is a tool that can help engage with oneself in a two way dialogue to examine the source of 'unexpressed fears.' This is a test of your resolve and will power to go through with what is essential for you. Stay committed to going through whatever it takes until you feel you are completely ‘true to your intentions’.
  • Recognize the Role & identity assumed: Mustering all the kindness you deserve for yourself, now envision that person you will truly fall in love with for standing up for what you now believe is the right thing to do.

Congratulations, you have made a great progress. Get ready to contract with yourself.

Case study: Resolving the 'either or' dilemma

  • Acknowledge ‘self deceit’: Ms Anonymous was National champion in volley Ball. After her marriage, she took up a sedate job. She was generously over weight and hopelessly out of shape. The Doctor advised her to resume getting active to arrest her health from worsening further. She was denying that there was any serious need to bring herself back into shape. Why had she given up on herself?
  • Surface the 'erroneous assumptions': She was afraid of losing her job if she regulated her working hours to avoid sitting late. Consequently she kept postponing the decision. She felt even uncomfortable and breathless with passage of time; additionally she began to feel guilty about neglecting medical advice and being pulled up by the doctor at some future date. She thought she either had to get healthy or keep the job. Both cannot happen.
  • Recognize the Role & identity assumed: At the instance of her coach, she did what she was most afraid of. She discussed her 'medical condition' with her boss and appraise him of the need for her to regulate her hours at work. The boss worked with her to avoid late sitting and released her to pursue swimming as a way of regaining her fitness back.
